2024: Celebrating 100 Years of North Brentwood

There's never been a more exciting time for our Town. Under the leadership of Mayor Petrella Robinson, on the shoulders of the Town’s elected officials, past and present, and under the spiritual guidance of our ancestors, in 2024 we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the incorporation of North Brentwood.

Throughout 2024, we have honored North Brentwood’s unique place in America’s Story: a powerful reminder of our claim to the promise of this nation. Hence, our Town's anniversary theme this year is that we not only evolve, but “We Endure.”

 A Year of Celebration!

100th Anniversary Dinner Dance & Awards Ceremony

On June 8, North Brentwood’s Mayor and Town Council hosted a Centennial Celebration gala at Martin’s Crosswinds in Greenbelt, MD. Guests included Bladensburg Mayor Takisha James, and master of ceremonies Sam Ford, former WJLA ABC News DC Bureau Chief, who recently retired after 50 years in journalism.

North Brentwood Day

Each June, the Town celebrates the anniversary of its 1924 founding with a community-wide celebration. This year, 2024, on our 100th Anniversary, citizens enjoyed food and craft vendors, live entertainment, face painting, and our annual parade through Town with special guests. Windom Road Barrier Park

In the 1950s, a corrugated metal crash barrier was installed at the intersection of Windom Road and 39th Street, to delineate the municipal boundary between Brentwood and North Brentwood. One of the highlights of the 2024 slate of anniversary events was the opening of Windom Road Barrier Park and the sculpture that replaced the barrier - both unveiled on June 29, a Juneteenth celebration! Photos include events leading up to the sculpture unveiling. See more photos: https://liftthewindombarrier.com/photo-gallery.

Grand Re-opening of Sis's Tavern

There’s been a lot to celebrate during North Brentwood’s 100th year, and the grand reopening of Sis’s Tavern (at 4516 41st Avenue) is one of this year’s crowning achievements. We worked to honor the legacy of Sis’s amidst renovations, securing permits, and hiring an events planner… On September 14, North Brentwoodians gathered at Sis’s anew to see the space, enjoy refreshments and music —and to book upcoming family and business events.

Time Capsule Event
Sat, November 17 @ Sis's Tavern

The final event is a gathering at the newly-renovated historic Sis's Tavern, to create a time capsule worthy of opening 100 years from now! See the Time Capsule event.
